I’m excited to perform the full production of Penelope, a music-theater piece based on The Odyssey, with music by Sarah Kirkland Snider and directed by Lisa Rothe. This marks the first full production since its premiere in 2012. I look forward to sharing this deeply moving work with all of you.
Join me for the book launch of The Greek Plays II at the Center for Fiction. The evening will include an interview with Kathy Chalfant and readings from my work by Kelley Curran, Josiah Bania, Marty Moran, Laura Heisler, and Christina Lind. It promises to be a fun and engaging event!
I’ll be doing an interview and reading from Greek Plays II, followed by a Q&A session. A reception will follow the event.
I will be performing in Pen Pals, a two-character play alongside Mary Beth Peil.
There will be seven performances in total, starting on January 22nd.
I’ll be participating in this workshop, exploring the connections between ancient and modern performance practices.
A staged reading of my play, Conversations at the Return of Spring, featuring performances by Kathy Chalfant and Kelley Curran, directed by me.
Ellen will be teaching during a river-rafting writing course with her dear friend, Page Lambert, a marvelous writer based in Denver who has given Ellen some of her favorite adventures over the years.
Ellen will be playing King Lear in the Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s production from July 8 to August 12, 2023.

This summer’s 39th Free Shakespeare in the Park production features a four-episode production of Shakespeare’s epic tale, Pericles, Prince of Tyre in a new verse translation by playwright Ellen McLaughlin. The season begins with virtual performances of Episodes 1 through 3 on YouTube Live. Episode 4 ushers San Francisco Shakespeare Festival’s return to in-person outdoor performances in Bay Area parks.
The Oresteia by Ellen McLaughlin was commissioned and developed by Shakespeare Theatre Company, which in 2019 produced the world premiere, directed by Michael Kahn.
At the start of the global pandemic, En Garde Arts asked a dozen NYC-based women playwrights, “What are you dreaming about right now?” They shared their stories of resilience and imagining a better future – dreams of flying, traveling, and grappling with what it means to be an artist right now.
We are bringing their dreams to life in an immersive installation of sets, lights, video, and sound. Audience members will be socially-distanced as they move through the installation, where they will see some of the most powerful articulators of our time reflect upon our world today.
An evening of comic-yet-meditative one-act plays by Billy Aronson (who devised the original concept and additional lyrics for Rent, the winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical) and Raoul Rosenberg (Emmy Award winning writer, director, and editor).

In her A.C.T. debut, Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon continues her career-long exploration of American theater’s legendary playwright, Pulitzer Prize winner Edward Albee (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?).
The theatre of Ellen McLaughlin of Angels in America and Rinde Eckert, known for his Kennedy Center performances and little men with big ideas characters, juxtaposed with the poetry of Victoria Chang and Allison Joseph, carries the viewer into a spin of story floating between the poetic and the theatrical.
